Morphology
Stroma: 

Stromata clavate, up to 70 mm in height.  Fertile area obovoid, 10-15 x 8-10 mm, dark brown, not distinctly separated from the stipe.  Stipe yellowish brown, 3-5 mm thick. 

Perithecia: 

Perithecia narrowly ovoid, 750-100 x 250-300 um, slender neck, completely immersed. 

Asci: 

Asci cylindrical, 430-600 x 4-6 um, with hemispherical thickening of ascus wall.

Ascospores: 

Ascospores, hyaline, filiform, breaking into partspores.  Partspores cylindrical, 6-8 x 1-1.5 um.
