Stroma:
Mycelia not covering the outside of the host, forming a fleshy whitish sclerotium formed from hyphae 2 – 5 um thick which are multiseptate, thin walled and irregularly joined.
Stromata solitary or forming aggregations of 2 – 8 or cespitose cylindrical or clavate 1 – 4 cm tall flesh almost fragile.
Stipes cylindrical single or almost forked 0.7 - 2.5 cm long 0.5 – 2.5 mm thick, equal, tapering or mature subcompressed, base rarely oppressed-thickened, at first pallid-yellowish (Maritius Yellow) then pallid-ochraceous (light Ochraceous Buff) or luteus (Orange Buff) not quite pale. Exterior slightly smooth-hairless, interior yellow, solid rarely hollow in maturity composed of hyphae compact and longitudinally arranged, 2.5 – 5.5 ?m thick which are multisepatate, thin walled, subhyaline and joined none.
Fertile parts terminal, distinctly clavate to cylindric 2 – 20 mm (typically 10-15 mm) long tapering 1.5 -3.5 mm thick, apice obtuse or subattenuate on high ostioles of the perithecia on the upper portion densely punctuated to covering the sides at maturity, Ochraceous Buff-Ocraceous-Orange otherwise Cream Colored. Medulla about 1.5 mm thick opaque and the hyphae arranged longitudinally 4 -8 um thick opaque thin walled with simple septa, interwoven.
