Morphology
Stroma: 

Stroma capitate, 15 - 25 mm long, arising directly from truffle fruiting body of Elaphomyces spp.  Fertile region purplish-black, 2.5 mm in diameter, distinct from stipe. Stipe yellow-green to olivaceous, slender, 0.5 - 1.0 mm in diameter.

 
Perithecia: 

Perithecia ovoid, 500 - 600 x 250 - 350 um, completely immersed.

Asci: 

Asci cylindrical, 300-480 x 5-6 um, with walls hemispherically thickened at the apices.

Ascospores: 

Ascospores hyaline, filiform, multiseptate, easily breaking into partspores.  Partspores 2-5 x 1.5-2 um.
